Welcome to the Dungeon rules
Accessible HTML rules · 2015 English edition
This structured text version follows the official IELLO English rulebook and includes every hero, monster, and equipment effect used by this implementation. The bundled PDF remains the authoritative illustrated source.
Overview, goal, and contents
During each round, players bid to determine who must take one shared Adventurer into the Dungeon with whatever equipment remains. Players secretly add monsters, sacrifice equipment, or leave the bidding.
Win by surviving two Dungeons or by being the last player who has not been eliminated. Fail two Dungeons and you are eliminated.
- 13 Monster cards.
- 4 player aids and 4 Adventurer tiles.
- 24 Equipment tiles.
- 8 Success cards and the rule booklet.
Setup
- Choose or randomly draw one shared Adventurer and place it at the center. The Warrior is recommended for a first game.
- Put that Adventurer's six matching Equipment tiles beneath the Adventurer.
- Shuffle all Monster cards into a facedown deck.
- Give every player a player aid, white side up.
- Reserve a facedown Dungeon pile for the Monsters added during this round.
- Put five Success cards nearby and return the other three to the box.
- Choose the starting player randomly.
Bidding phase
Play clockwise. On your turn, either draw the top Monster secretly or pass and leave this round. If the Monster deck is empty, you must pass.
After drawing, choose exactly one of the following. Your turn then ends.
- Add the Monster facedown to the Dungeon. Everyone may count Dungeon cards, but nobody may inspect them.
- Remove the Monster facedown from the round and sacrifice one available Equipment tile with it.
- If no Equipment remains, a drawn Monster must be added to the Dungeon.
- Once every player but one has passed, the remaining player becomes the Adventurer and enters the Dungeon with the Equipment left behind.
Dungeon phase
Only the player who did not pass participates. Add the Adventurer's base HP and all remaining HP bonuses, then reveal Dungeon cards one at a time.
- If remaining Equipment defeats the revealed Monster, discard that Monster without losing HP.
- Otherwise lose HP equal to the Monster's strength, then discard it.
- Continue until the Dungeon is empty, resolving applicable Equipment effects as instructed.
- If total damage is lower than starting HP, survive and take a Success card. A second Success wins the game.
- If total damage is equal to or greater than starting HP, fail. Flip a white player aid to red; failing again while red eliminates that player.
- If only one player remains, that player wins immediately.
- Reveal all Monsters removed during bidding after the Dungeon is resolved.
New round and game end
If nobody has won, reshuffle all Monsters facedown. The player who just entered chooses the next shared Adventurer and restores that Adventurer's complete Equipment set.
The previous Adventurer starts the next bidding round. If eliminated, the next player to the left starts.
- Win immediately when you earn a second Success card.
- Win immediately when every other player has been eliminated.

Adventurers and equipment
Every Adventurer has a base HP value and six unique Equipment tiles. HP Equipment increases starting health; other Equipment defeats or modifies particular encounters.
- Ring of Power defeats strength 1 and 2 Monsters and adds their combined strength to HP.
- Choose the Monster type for a Vorpal Sword or Dagger before revealing the first Dungeon card; it defeats every matching copy.
- Decide whether to use the Vorpal Axe immediately after seeing the current Monster, before seeing any later Monster.
- Resolve Omnipotence only after every Dungeon card has been drawn; if all Monsters differ, the round succeeds even after an ordinary failure.
- Demonic Pact simply defeats the Demon when it is the last Monster; there is no next Monster to defeat.
- Polymorph cannot be used if the Monster deck is empty.
- After a reveal leaves the Barbarian or Rogue at 0 HP or less, Healing Potion resets HP to that Adventurer's printed base value.
